Additional Expenses for Students
- Health Insurance – Each student must provide his/her own health insurance for the 8 month program. We do not cover hospitalization for the student. If the student is not covered by his/her parent’s health plan, it is suggested the students find an “Insurance Sponsor.” (An insurance sponsor is someone who would include the student in a business plan.)
- Vehicle – First year students are not required to bring a vehicle. Second year students, however, are strongly urged to bring a vehicle because most take on part-time jobs. Any vehicle must be serviceable and in good working order. It MUST be covered by liability insurance. Proof of insurance is mandatory in the state of Michigan. All maintenance, gas & repairs are the student’s responsibility.
- Personal Funds – Each student must also have sufficient funds for personal expenses (i.e. toiletries, snacks, extra meals, fun stuff, etc.) It is suggested they have $75 – $100 per month for the duration of the program. This monthly support is to be handled directly by the student, with all checks made out in their name. No Personal Fund support should be channeled through the Xmin Academy office.
- Travel – Overseas and stateside missions opportunities will be offered each year, typically costing $500-$1500, depending on trip details. Because of possible overseas trips and our proximity to Canada, each student should have a current passport prior to the beginning of his/her term. Trips are not required but they are certainly encouraged!
Living
Housing
Members of Xmin Academy are expected to live out their discipleship and commitment to Jesus on a daily basis, and to do it through their attitude and behavior. That’s why the Xmin Apartments are located in Hamtramck, the “city within Detroit.” Your apartment places you just a few blocks from Real Church and in the middle of a vibrant, ethnically-diverse, and spiritually-hungry residental neighborhood – the perfect place for you to grow personally, spiritually, and socially. Your apartment will be a Christ-centered environment where your training and ministry will be prayerfully supported. Apartment responsibilities and program guidelines set at the beginning of the year will keep you accountable to each other and to the Academy.
Food
A weekly food allowance will be given to each Xmin Academy student, and you will be responsible for all of your meals. An important part of ministry is learning to budget your money and time, and meals are a great place to start! We want students to gain an understanding of independent living, so we will be helping you learn to purchase groceries and make your own meals.
